![]() In 2011, Mike and Kim DeWilde acquired the Lafayette, IN office and merged the Anderson and Indianapolis territories into this location which is now servicing 26 counties. The company continued to operate well and the Smith’s acquired several other industrial buildings and farmland in the areas they worked.Įventually, location managers expressed interest in acquiring their respective locations and the Smith family began to sell respective territories to prominent local managers. Automobiles had become more diverse and daily delivers became more feasible so large shipments turned into daily shipments. The Smith brothers enjoyed the business and didn’t need the money so they refused to sell. As the market began to mature, Safelite began buying up auto glass shops across the country and consolidating distribution. Many automobiles had the same windshield across models and between trucks and cars there were deep discounts for buying in bulk and projecting potential needs months in advance. Magic Glass would soon be receiving semi-trailer loads of glass to serve the growing auto industry. ![]() in Lafayette was a bustling business and the brothers would often sleep above the office after having been on the road for so many days. ![]() The brothers would travel to the various shops to call on customers and check on the team’s work. Stan eventually became regional Vice President and the brothers and he led the growth of the company across Indiana eventually opening up four other shops in the state. ( Mobile Auto Glass Installation Centers) was started by the Smith brothers, W.O., Robert and Raymond, of Ludlow, IL in 1968 along with Stan Hylbert who also came over from Illinois as a glass technician. ![]()
